 The best time to visit South Africa is between May and October which bring perfect weather conditions for wildlife viewing. From November to February, expect some rain and plenty of opportunities for birding. The best time to visit South Africa for surfing is March to September. 


 Visa: U.S. citizens (U.S. passport holders) visiting the Republic of South Africa for ninety (90) days or less for tourism / business purposes do not need visas.


Passport: You must have a valid passport for this trip that will not expire 30 days beyond your intended date of exit from South Africa; however, some immigration officials still request that a passport should have at least 6 months validity on the date of entry to South Africa.


 The Rand is used throughout the whole of South Africa, including its major cities like Cape Town and Johannesburg. The international airports have 24-hour foreign exchange services to accommodate international visitors. 


 When travelling in Southern Africa, the most useful currency to have with you is South African Rands or US dollars. You do not need to carry a lot of cash with you – most places accept credit cards. You can exchange money easily at any bank in South Africa. 


 Yes, you can drink Cape Town's tap water. The City of Cape Town has some of the safest tap water globally.  


 Visa and MasterCards are widely accepted in South Africa. For cash withdrawals, use any of South Africa's major banks' ATMs e.g. Nedbank, Standard Bank, Capitec, First National Bank or Absa.
